Age 70, of Avondale passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 surrounded by his family's love after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born and raised in Wilmington, DE, he was the son of the late Alice Ainsworth Winward and William M. Winward. Butch started his career with Western Electric ultimately retiring from ATT. Not one to sit around, he worked as a handy man for many years making lasting friendships with those he met.

He was a devoted husband, father and pop pop who shared his birthday with his great granddaughter. He loved to rebuild tractors, minibikes and just about anything with wheels or a motor. He was an avid Eagles, Phillies and NASCAR fan who could often be found playing the penny slots.

He is survived by his wife Vicki Sharpless Winward of Avondale, 3 daughters; Dawn Talley (Jack) of Kennett Square, Kim Handy of West Grove, Stacy Anderson (Bob) of Landenberg and Daniel Adamson of West Chester, six grandchildren; Emily, Jonathan & Luke Talley, Katelynn & Amanda Handy, Jake Anderson and great granddaughter Lianna Joynes.

He is also survived by his brothers William "Biddy" Winward (Carol) of Newark, Ken Winward (Helen) of Wilmington and sister Jeannette Joachimowski of Wilmington.

A Life Celebration will be held on Saturday, July 20 at Mt. Lebanon united Methodist Church, 850 Mt. Lebanon Rd., Wilmington. Visitation will be 9:30 - 11:00 followed by services at 11:30.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Neighborhood Hospice, 400 E. Marshall St., West Chester, PA 19380.
