Roland E. Dallas Obituary
Roland E. Dallas

Roland E. "Jim" Dallas, 87 of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully at home on September 17, 2015 after a long illness. He was born in Cincinnati, OH on May 21, 1928 to Roland E. and Norma (Thompson) Dallas; was raised by his grandmother, Daisy Pearl Thompson, who nicknamed him "Jimmy". At age 17, having graduated from High School a year early, Jim left life on the farm to join the U.S. Navy where he proudly served aboard the U.S.S. aircraft carrier Kearsarge. It was while on leave that Jim met and courted the love of his life, Dolores James and eventually settled permanently in Wilmington. Jim attended Beacom College and started work as an accountant for the DuPont Co., then went to Atlas Powder, and in 1950 joined Hatzel & Buehler, Elec. Contractors; retiring as office manager in 1992. Throughout his long life Jim had many interests, including golf, bowling, bridge, travel, and any sport involving teams from Ohio. He was a talented baker; known for his most excellent cookies, pies and fudge. With his unique sense of humor Jim radiated a warm and pleasant nature. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dolores, three children, Barbara (Tim) Timberman of Coventry, CT, Alan (Gail) of Spring Grove, PA and Brian (Karen) of Wilmington, six grandchildren; Teddy, Lucy, Andrew, Michael, Bill, and Emily and four great-grandchildren. Services to celebrate Jim's life will take place on Saturday September 26 at 11am with visitation at 10am at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway Wilmington, DE 19808. Burial will be held privately. To honor the memory of Jim the family suggests donations to the Helen Graham Cancer Center, (4701 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark, DE. 19713) and sharing a plate of freshly baked cookies among loved ones.
