Obituary Condolences

Ruth A. Kelsey

AGE: 91 • Albuquerque, New Mexico

Ruth A. Kelsey, née Sheetz, formerly of Wilmington, passed away in Albuquerque New Mexico on Sunday December 6, 2015 after a short illness. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Norman, parents Russell and Ruth Sheetz, brother Russell Sheetz and sister Eleanor Holland.

Ruth was born in Harrisburg Pennsylvania on July 31, 1924. Following her graduation from high school, Ruth worked for the State of Pennsylvania as a stenographer and during World War II often danced with soldiers and sailors at the USO in Harrisburg. After the war, she married Norman Kelsey and started her life long passion as wife, mother, and grandmother. Living in Boston, River Edge New Jersey and Wilmington, Ruth dedicated her life to raising her daughter Diane and son Michael. Many of her fondest memories were in River Edge, where she served the First Congregational Church and made many of her longest friendships. After moving to Wilmington in 1967, Ruth worked at the Friendly Gift Shop. Following the retirement of her husband, she moved first to Charleston, South Carolina and then to Albuquerque New Mexico in 1989 where she lived the last years of her life close to her daughter Diane and two of her grand daughters.

Besides her family, Ruth's greatest love was music. From a family of professional musicians, Ruth listened to music of all types, ranging from country, big band and contemporary pop. Even in her late 80s, Ruth enjoyed discovering new music, such as the Eagles. Earlier in her life she played the violin, piano and organ.

Ruth is survived by her brother David and his wife Debra, daughter Diane Hice and her husband Don, son Michael and his wife Cynthia, granddaughters Jacqueline Pyke , Jessica Patton , Anne Kelsey and Elizabeth Kelsey; great grandsons Corbin Pyke , Leo Pyke and Clark Patton and great grand daughter Gwen Patton . Burial and a family celebration of her life will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in Ruth's name to All Faith's Receiving Home, 1709 Moon Street NE, Albuquerque NM 87112
