AGE: 83 • Wilmington

Ruth M. Brown, age 83, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2016 with her loving family by her side. Born and raised in Wilmington, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Beatrice Groh.

Ruth was a homemaker, who was an amazing cook and seamstress. She loved hosting all of the holidays and having the family together. Ruth was a gardener, who loved tending to her flowers and rose bushes. She loved to watch the cherry trees blossom in Wilmington in the spring.

In her spare time, Ruth enjoyed going to Delaware Park and playing the slots. She could also be found watching her favorite TV shows, Court TV and Family Feud.

Ruth will be remembered for always being there for her family and helping anyone in need. She was a good person and quite a comedian with a great sense of humor. She treasured spending time with her family and her grandchildren.

Ruth was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, George L. Brown, Jr.; her parents; her brothers, Edwin and Alfred Groh and Herbert Groh and his wife, Marna; her sister, Dorothy Popo and her husband, Dominic; and her brother-in-law, Ardna Powers. She is survived by her sons, George L. Brown, III, and his wife, Gerri ,and Raymond D. Brown and his wife, Lisa, all of Wilmington; her daughters, Patricia A. Edwards and her husband, Donald, of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Cindy McCollum and Michael DiPatre of Wilmington; her brother, Bobby Groh and his wife, Jackie, of El Paso, TX; her sister, Charlotte Powers of Newark; her sister-in-law, Esther Groh of New Castle; her grandchildren, Jason and Wendy, Les and Kathleen, Ray, Kelly, Nicole, Chris and Katie; her great grandchildren, Connor, Alexis and Georgie; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may visit on Friday, November 25 from 10 to 11 AM at Gracelawn Memorial Chapel, 2220 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720, where a Celebration of Ruth's Life will begin at 11 AM. Interment will follow at the cemetery.
