AGE: 73 • Milton

Sally A. Cordrey, age 74, of Milton, DE, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2015, at Beebe Healthcare, in Lewes, DE. She was born August 26, 1941in Dover, DE, daughter of the late Ira and Sarah "Sally" (McDonald) Cordrey.

Ms. Cordrey was raised in Wilmington where she attended P.S. DuPont High School graduating in 1959. She graduated from the University of Delaware in 1964 with a B. S. degree in Physical Education and began several years of teaching in Smyrna. The call of family and friends soon took her South to a job teaching Health and PE at Cape Henlopen High School. Most every teenager in the Cape Henlopen School District had Ms. Cordrey for a teacher, coach or advisor. In the early 90's she was selected to head a new program for at risk youth and was instrumental in setting up the Sussex County Alternative School. She counseled and guided all the Cape students who needed placement through their work at the Alternative School and their return to Cape Henlopen High School.

In 1998 Sally completed the requirements for an Ed.D degree from Wilmington College. She soon became an Assistant Principal at Cape Henlopen High School and continued her long career as an advocate for students. She ended this wonderful life work and commitment to youth upon retirement in 2003.

After her retirement, she devoted herself to her beloved Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rehoboth Beach. She was an Elder in her church and later became a Certified Lay Pastor. She made several mission trips for the Church to Guatemala and Democratic Republic of Congo and later became Moderator for the New Castle Presbytery.

Ms. Cordrey is survived by her brother, Richard (Rick) I. Cordrey and his wife Marianne of Wilmington, DE; two nieces, Marianne (Mimi) Cordrey-Cotsell of Wilmington, DE; Ellen deVrind and her husband John of Middletown, DE; six great-nieces and nephews, John V; Alison; Ashley; Mieke; Jonathan; Gabe;

one great-great nephew, John VI and her beloved canine companion, Zho-nee and many dear friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 11 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE where friends may call beginning at 10 AM. Friends may also call at the funeral home on Friday, July 17, 2015 from 6 PM to 8 PM. Interment will immediately follow the funeral services at Cool Spring Presbyterian Cemetery, Milton, DE.
