Scott C. Smith, age 47, of New Castle, DE peacefully passed away in his sleep on May 23, 2017. Scott attended William Penn High School where he graduated in the top five percent of the 1988 class. He went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Goldey Beacom College. While at William Penn, in addition to being on Student Council, he was a three-sport athlete playing football, baseball and wrestling. He was both academically and athletically gifted. In his senior year, he received the distinction of Academic All American. He was honored to be awarded All State First Team Defensive Back in football his senior year. He was then chosen to play on the Blue Team in the Blue Gold football game of 1987. He loved his time at William Penn, and all the people he met there, many of whom became life-long friends.

Scott worked in the Accounting and Banking Industry. He loved the beach, traveling to warmer climates and going on cruises. He was an avid sports fan and loved hanging out with his friends at the TAC and Rod and Gun clubs playing pool and shuffleboard.

Scott was known for his friendliness, infectious sense of humor, and his willingness to always help family and friends in need and will forever be missed by many.

Scott is survived by his parents, Cheryl A. and Allen R. Smith Jr.; his fiancée, Mary Halter; his brother, Todd A. Smith (Lisa), his sister, Laura A. McDermott (Kevin); and his niece, Amanda D. White. Scott was predeceased by grandparents: Allen R. Smith, Sr., Vivian Smith Bahr, Charles R. Cloutier, Sr., Alice Cloutier Greco, aunt Vivian "Winnie" Bayer, and uncle, Charles R. Cloutier, Jr.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday evening, May 31 from 6-8 PM and again on Thursday, June 1 from 9:30-11 AM at the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702. A service in celebration of Scott's life will take place at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
