AGE: 93 • Glen Mills

Sharon Scott Ulrey of Glen Mills, PA died peacefully on Dec 3, 2015 at Riddle Hospital. He was born in February 1922 in Evanston, IL to Sharon S. and Vida Abbott Ulrey. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Betty) H. Ulrey; children Stephen S. Ulrey (Sue) of Lake Bluff IL, Melissa U. Gill (Marvin) of Tampa FL, and Robert H. Ulrey (Laurel) of Landenberg PA; grandchildren Scott S. Ulrey (Anna) of Madison WI and Russell J. Ulrey of Fairfax CA; and great granddaughter Magdalene T. Ulrey of Madison WI.

Scott graduated from Evanston Township HS in 1938 as salutatorian and from the University of Michigan School of Engineering in 1942. He entered the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lt and deployed to England. As a Captain and company commander he participated in the D-Day invasion, the liberation of France and Belgium, the Battle of the Bulge, and the final conquest of Germany.



After the cessation of hostilities in Europe, Scott returned to the U.S. to marry Elizabeth C. Henkel of Grosse Pointe Park MI on June 16, 1945. He then began a 40 year career with DuPont that took him and his family to a number of DuPont locations, including Wilmington DE, Victoria TX, Parkersburg WV, Dordrecht Netherlands, and Los Angeles CA. He retired from DuPont in 1985 and continued to live in Wilmington until 2008 he and Betty moved to Maris Grove in Glen Mills, PA.

Scott was an avid and expert bridge player, achieving the status of Life Master in 2000. His competitive spirit was revealed as a preteen and teenager when, one year, he defeated all comers his age to become Greater Chicago area tennis champion. He also was dedicated and proficient at golf.

Interment will take place in the Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.

There will be a Celebration of Life gathering at Maris Grove at 3 pm on Jan 6, 2016.
