Shirley Faye Green Obituary
Shirley Faye Green

AGE: 84 • Newark

Shirley Faye Green of Newark, Delaware, passed away Monday, June 19, 2017, surrounded by her three children in the Christiana Hospital. Shirley was born in Missouri to the late Eugene Oliver Pruett and Edith McKissick, the eldest of four children. Shirley graduated in 1948 from Mitchell High School, Indiana and moved to Detroit, MI where she would meet and marry the love of her life, Floyd Lawson Green. Floyd's job transfer from Detroit, MI, moved the family to Elkton, MD in 1958 and eventually to Newark, DE where Floyd would further his career at the Newark Chrysler Assembly Plant.

Shirley and Floyd raised three happy children in Brookside Park. Once they settled in school, Shirley began her own career as a technician with W.L. Gore & Associates, in Newark, retiring with 18 years of service. After Floyd retired from Chrysler, they traveled the USA, and lived for a time in Floyd's hometown of Nashville, TN, before returning home to Newark. Shirley and Floyd were well known for their Friday night dance parties in the living room of their home where neighbors and friends gathered to dance away to hits by Elvis Presley, Country Music, and 50's Rock and Roll. Shirley always had a smile on her face and a kind word to everyone she met. Her children always made sure she was well taken care of and celebrated life's blessings gathered around her side.

Deeply loved and admired by her family and friends, Shirley will be greatly missed by those who knew her and remembered for her love of sparkling treasures, her garden roses and embroidered gifts to her family. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Lawson Green in 2011, her brother Donald Pruett in 2006, grandson Douglas Robert Green in 2014, daughter-in-law Cheryl Ann Roth in 1998, son-in-law Ed Garlewski in 1999. Shirley is survived by her sisters Elizabeth (Betty) Pruett Reno and Kathy Pruett, two daughters: Susan Diann Green Garlewski and Karen Lynn Green Norris (Scott D. Norris), son Frank Douglas Green (Frances A. Clancy-Green), three grandchildren: Corrina (Carrie) Williams Klair (Richard Klair), Alyson Norris Slezak (Chuck Slezak), and Dan Green (Kathleen Donohue Green), seven great-grandchildren: Kayla, Amber, and Brayden Douglas Green and Taylor Pennell-Green and Gavin Patrick Green, Brianna Williams and Timothy Dukes; and a great-great grandchild: Christopher Penland.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 12 noon at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702 where friends may visit beginning at 11:00 am. The Committal Service will take place at 2 pm at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd, Bear, DE 19701.
