Sylvia Isobel Alice England Cashell Naylor passed away on June 14, 2016, in Glen Mills, PA., surrounded by family.

She was born at the Panteg Hotel, Pontypool, Monmouthshire, UK, on June 19, 1927. She was predeceased by her parents, Elsie Thomas and Herbert Charles England as well as her first husband, John Gering Cashell, her second husband, Charles(Chuck) Arthur Naylor, and her son, David Arthur Naylor. Sylvia attended Cardiff Metropolitan University, College of Art, in Wales, UK, where she met her husband, American GI John Gering Cashell. They married in Bargoed, Wales, on July 20,1947, and came to the US on the Queen Mary. They lived in New York and Pennsylvania and had three children. Tragically, John died in 1957 in an automobile accident. Sylvia married Chuck, a widower, on May 29, 1959, and gained a beloved son. After four years in West Virginia, they moved to Wilmington, DE, where they lived until 2008.

As an artist Sylvia created collages as well as painted in watercolor and acrylic. She studied at the Maryland Institute of Art, the Philadelphia College of Art, and the Delaware Art Museum. She was a member of the National League of American Pen Women, Inc., Council of Delaware of Artists, and the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts. She had solo shows and participated in numerous group and juried shows. She was represented by the Station Gallery, Greenville, DE, and the Port Clyde Art Gallery, Maine. In 2010 Sylvia was recognized by The National League of American Pen Women, Inc. for 33 years of service to the League. For many years Sylvia spent summers on the coast of Maine. In 1981 Sylvia, Chuck, and Jane bought a cabin on Hupper Island, ME, where their extended family spent many wonderful, memorable times. An active member in Presbyterian and Methodist churches, and the Church of England, Sylvia was an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), a Bible study leader, and a Sunday school teacher.

Sylvia loved being a mother. Her most favorite creative work was her family. She leaves behind three children, six grandchildren, and a great grandson: Jane Cashell (Paul Barns), David Cashell (Lynn Cashell), Judy Cashell (John Varga), Douglas Cashell (Jamie Cashell), Emily Cashell (Chance DeSilva), Charlotte Cashell-Varga (David Caudle), John Barns, Thomas Barns, William Barns, and Asher Jonah Cashell.

A memorial service will be held at the Maris Grove Chapel, 200 Maris Grove Way, Glen Mills, PA, on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Sylvia's name to the Maris Grove Benevolent Care Fund or the Maris Grove Scholars' Fund.
