"Jim"

AGE: 69 • Wilmington

Thomas J. Coco, age 69, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 6, 2016.

A native Delawarean, Jim was born in Wilmington on March 27, 1947, and was the son of James and Esther (Reid) Coco. A graduate of John Dickinson High School, he was a standout athlete who played both baseball and basketball. Jim proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force, spending most of his time stationed in Alaska. After returning home to Delaware, he accepted a position as a driver with the Del Campo Baking Company where he would meet his future wife, Karen who worked in the company's office. In 1986, Jim purchased a delivery route with Tastykake which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2011.

An avid sports fan, he followed all of the Philadelphia sports teams, enjoyed NASCAR, and looked forward to each college basketball season. Jim adored the beach and he and Karen spent many happy weekends there together. In his leisure time, he liked dining out and taking trips to Lancaster County, PA. Jim was an excellent handyman and enjoyed tinkering around the house. He was a devoted caretaker and son to his mother, Esther whom he cherished.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, James. In addition to his mother, Esther, he is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Karen A. (Krafchick); children, Scharla Baker (Eric) and Tom Elmore (Amy), all of Anchorage, AK; and grandchildren, Bronwyn and Megan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Tuesday morning, May 10, 2016, at St. John the Beloved R.C. Church, 907 Milltown Road, Sherwood Park, Wilmington, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held 10 am until 11 am. Entombment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim's memory may be made to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
