AGE: 85 • Wilmington

Thomas R. Platt, Sr., age 85 of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by family on Wednesday, April 5, 2017. He was the son of the late Joseph and Florence Platt, born December 21, 1931 in Upper Darby Township, Delaware County, PA, the last of 8 children. Thomas served in the Air Force and Air Force Reserves from 1955-59. In 1958 he married Elizabeth Messarge and over the years they raised 3 sons and 1 daughter. Thomas worked as a union carpenter, a bowling alley mechanic for AMF and Pleasant Hills Bowling Lanes full time until the late '90s and part-time until 2011. He enjoyed playing baseball, football, and golf with his kids in the back and front yards as well as the field. Thomas liked being around family and relatives, watching sports - especially golf, and old movie shows on TV. He also enjoyed the cats and dogs that lived in their homes throughout the years.

Thomas is survived by his 4 children: Thomas R. Platt Jr., Stephen J. Platt, David M. Platt, and JoAnne E. Schnyder; sister, Helen Preston; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and 1 step grandchild. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth M. Platt.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 9:30-10:30 AM at Heritage Presbyterian Church, 140 Airport Rd., New Castle, DE 19720 followed by a service in celebration of Thomas's life at 10:30 AM. Entombment will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his loving wife, Elizabeth M. Platt. For directions or to send an online condolence visit www.stranofeeley.com
