Thomas William Hutchins Obituary
Thomas William Hutchins

AGE: 73 • Wilmington

Thomas William Hutchins, 73, of Wilmington Delaware, passed away peacefully on Monday August 22, 2016 after a long battle with cancer.

Tom was born to Thomas Morrisey Hutchins and Marie Hutchins (Bartholf) on August 2, 1943. He attended Chichester High School and was involved in many sports before graduating and joining the US Army. Tom opted not to make a career out of the military and was honorably discharged before deciding to attend Temple University's Charles Morris Price School of Journalism. He had a true penchant for writing, advertising and managing; leading to long positions as Vice President of Sales and Marketing with Rollins Leasing Corporation (Wilmington, Delaware) and Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Auto Division with AMI Leasing (Worcester, Massachusetts). Tom authored several articles regarding leasing for the American Management Association and various trade magazines.

Tom was father to three children, who he loved and respected deeply. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Decker Hutchins (wife Jennifer Rose) and leaves his son Michael Edwin Hutchins (wife Elisha) and daughter Lauren Emily Berryhill.

Tom will be reunited with his mother, father, brother (Charles Fredrick Hutchins) and sister (Elizabeth Ann Hutchins), but leaves behind his beloved sister Jeanne Marie Gordy (husband Peter).

Tom was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren; Ryan and Allison Hutchins and Liam Berryhill. He took great pleasure in seeing his grandchildren excel scholastically and athletically. Additionally, he had two nephews, Ryan and Kevin Carter, with whom he enjoyed sharing many laughs throughout his life.

Thomas Hutchins will be remembered for his extraordinary sense of humor and passion for making others laugh. He was devoted to educating himself and others on movie trivia, automobiles and many areas of history. Tom was blessed to share the final few years of his life with his very special and precious friend, Ruth Hagan, who kept him smiling to the very end.

His funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, August 27 at 1pm at the Joseph A. Ward Funeral Home 1459 Market St., Linwood, PA. Friends and family are invited to call from 12pm-1pm at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery. Online condolences can be sent through Jwardfuneralhome.com.
