AGE: 83 • Wilmington

Vernon John Albright (83) passed away on March 26, 2017 at Wilmington-Christiana Hospital in Wilmington DE. He was born in Chicago and as a lifelong Cubs fan lived to see them finally win the pennant. He is survived by two sons, Andrew Albright of Maple Glen, PA and his wife Kara Stillmock and Eric Albright of Denver CO and his wife Sarah Camastro and Cynthia Albright of Lewes DE his wife for 23 years. He enjoyed the births of four grandchildren over 10 years, Benton and Maria in Denver and Parish and Honor in Maple Glen PA. There were many joyous gatherings in Lewes over the years. He is also survived by a brother, Paul Albright of South Bend IN.

He had a degree in Agricultural Journalism from the University of Illinois and worked for several ad agencies in Chicago and Cleveland before joining Abbott Laboratories in Waukegan IL. In 1979 he was employed by the Dupont Company's Agricultural Chemicals Division in Wilmington DE retiring in 1994.

He was an active member and Elder at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Evanston IL. At Westminster Presbyterian Church in Wilmington he was an active Deacon. He served as Sunday School Supt. and Adult Education Coordinator and was a longtime volunteer at Emmanuel Dining Room, an outreach program initiated by Westminster and other local churches.

Shipley Manor in Wilmington DE provided a caring setting during his last two years. He especially enjoyed singing in their choir even having a solo at their Christmas concert in December.

A Memorial Service will be held on April 1st, 11 am at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 1504 W. 13th St. Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Association http://www.lls.org. He was a long-time survivor of CML and an early Gleevec patient.
