Obituary Condolences

Victoria Barone

Victoria Barone peacefully passed away in her home on Thursday afternoon, September 1, 2011. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Samantha Thomson, her father, George Barone, and other loving family members and friends.

As a teacher of young children in Avon Grove School District for 32 years, Ms. Barone touched the lives of hundreds of families. Forever challenging traditional structure, she introduced multi-age classrooms to the district midway through her career—a program she would continue to refine for the following 12 years. Her gifts of honoring the light and passion for learning in each child extended her influence well beyond the classroom. Students left her presence mindful of each day, each other, and the world around them.

As a colleague, Vickie respected the wisdom of her fellow teachers and did not hesitate to speak truth to power. A strong advocate for allowing children to develop at the appropriate pace, her influence inspired others to trust in the magic of children teaching children.

As a contra dancer, caller, and dance composer, Tori added joy and playfulness to the tradition. From her father, she learned to float, and she carried this grace with her to the dance line. Others danced her dances with great anticipation and felt the passion she crafted into each step. She encouraged and inspired dancers and fellow callers alike.

Our Friend, our teacher, daughter, and mother-- her spirit shines in the hearts of her loves. Her joy lives in each child. Her grace floats through every waltz. Her love wraps around our laughter.

Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Saturday, September 10 between 4 and 6 pm at Victoria's home: 2003 Harvey Rd. Arden, DE. Close friends and family are invited to celebrate the life of Victoria on Sunday, September 11, at 10 am in the Gild Hall: 2126 The Highway, Arden, DE.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Heifer International.
