Virgie Irene (Ware) Arbogast

Virgie Irene Ware Arbogast, age 102 years, a former resident of Valley Head, WV, and a resident of Middletown DE, passed away on July 19, 2016 at Cadia Rehabilitation/Broadmeadow in Middletown. She was born in Valley Head, WV, a daughter of the late Sylvester Warrick and Flora Swecker Ware. On October 3, 1931, in Mingo, WV, she was united in marriage to Roscoe Elmer Arbogast, who preceded her in death on July 22, 1994.

She is survived by two sons, Ronnie Duane Arbogast (Sandy), and Francis Eugene Arbogast (Jill); one daughter, Mary Jane Volz (George); eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; six step great-grandchildren; and two step great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are a daughter-in-law, Dorcus Straley Arbogast and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was one son, Victor Roscoe Arbogast; one daughter, Darlene Lucelle Crickard (Richard); a daughter-in-law, Patricia Spatz Arbogast; one step grandchild; one step great-grandchild; two brothers, Glen S. Ware and John William Ware; two half-brothers, Auvil F. Ware and Dwight Ware; three sisters, Iva Inez Ware, Mary Blanche Ritzert and an infant; and two half-sisters, Sylvia Ware Fretwell and Gladys Ware Channell.

Mrs. Arbogast was a lifelong member of The United Methodist Church, first at the Valley Head United Methodist Church where she was an active leader in the youth program, sang in the choir, was secretary/treasurer of the Church School, and held various other offices. Since 1956, along with her late husband, she was a faithful member of the Marshallton United Methodist Church in Marshallton, DE. She was a loving mother and grandmother and a gracious hostess to everyone who entered her home and will be remembered by so many family and friends for the many delicious meals she prepared and graciously served to guests. In the final nine years of her life, she was cared for by the staff of the Cadia Rehabilitation/Broadmeadow Facility. She enjoyed many visits from family, friends, and church members. The family would like to thank the Cadia Rehabilitation/Broadmeadow facility for the care and love they gave to their mother in these final years.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 22, 2016 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home 3710 Kirkwood HWY, Wilmington, DE 19808 where a funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Jacqueline Ford will officiate, and interment will follow in the Silverbrook Cemetery, WIlm., DE. Memorial contributions may be made to Cadia Rehabilitation/Broadmeadow facility, 500 Broad Street, Middletown, DE 19709 or Marshallton United Methodist Church, 1105 Stanton Road Marshallton, DE 19808, in memory of Mrs. Virgie Arbogast.
