Walter G. Parsons, age 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, February 10, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital Compassionate Care.

Walter was born in Kenton, DE to the late George and Althea (Phillips) Parsons. He was a 1952 graduate of Prospect Park High School, where he was a 3-letter athlete. He worked for Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania for 40 years as a cable splicer, where he made lifelong friends of several co-workers. He was an avid and innovative craftsman of many home remodeling projects and handcrafted woodwork. Walter served in the Army 1st Infantry Division (Big Red One) and served in Germany at the end of the Occupation and start of the Cold War.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be remembered by all who knew him for his generous and caring ways. Walter was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Ruth (Carr). He is survived by 2 daughters, Kimberly Parsons Lowden and her husband, Paul, April Parsons Lindsey and her husband, Larry; grandchildren, Ruth and Ernest Lowden; sister, Margaret Phillips; and his dear friend, Patricia Hunt.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Walter's Life Celebration on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at 2pm at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703, where visitation will begin at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Compassionate Care Hospice (Inpatient Unit at St. Francis Hospital), 7th & Clayton Streets, 6th Floor, Wilmington, DE 19805.
