AGE: 96 • Wilmington

Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, December 8, 2015.

Walter was born on March 24, 1919, son of the late Grover and Tella (McKinney) Christian. He retired in 1982 from Graves-Humphreys, Inc. of Roanoke, VA after 30 years as an industrial equipment salesman. He also worked for Holloway Brothers for 15 years.

He was a World War II veteran of the US Army, where he was awarded the Good Conduct, American Theater Service, American Defense Service and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medals. He served in Panama and Europe.

Walter was a founding parishioner of the St. Catherine of Siena Parish. He enjoyed time spent with family, especially family reunions in both in Delaware and Illinois. He was an avid fisherman on the surf and Indian River Bay. He was an avid Phillies fan, counting down the days for Spring Training to begin.

In addition to his parents, Walter is preceded in death by his sons, Walter M. Christian, Jr. and Michael A. Christian; brothers, Earle, Ray, Harold, Hugh Curtiss and Grover, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Katherine L. (Russelburg) Christian of 71 years of marriage; a son, Lawrence "Larry" (Terry) Christian of Wilmington, DE; daughter-in-law, Sallie Christian of Elkton, MD; five grandchildren, Lauren, Kate, Whitney, Travis and Trevor; three great grandchildren; a sister, Kathryn Feazell of New Castle, DE; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 14th, 2015 at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, 2505 Centerville Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 at 11:00 AM where visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.
