AGE: 96 • Seaford

William E. Mears, age 96, of Seaford, passed away on Tuesday, October 06, 2015. William was born in Seaford and worked on his father's farm until he was called into military service on June 24, 1944. During his fifteen months of service in Europe, most of which was in front line combat status, he earned the Combat Infantry Badge as a 2nd class machine gunner for cannoneer 844. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three battle stars, the Army of Occupation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. After his time in the services he came home and owned and operated the Super Thrift Store with his brother.

Bill is survived by his wife Betty Majors Mears, a son, William F. Mears (Jerri), 4 grandchildren, William D. Mears, Emily A. Carlin, Ashley Acosta and Justin Mears, 3 great-grandchildren and a brother Jack Mears.

Memorial Services will be on Saturday, October 10th at 1pm at the Cranston Funeral Home, 300 N. Shipley St, Seaford. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to Delaware Hospice Inc., 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or the Salvation Army, 22942 Sussex Hwy, Seaford, DE 19973.
