Wilmington - After a long illness, William Allen Fincher passed away on May 22, 2018.

Bill was born December 5, 1924 to Elsie and William A. Fincher in Wilmington, Delaware. He was a 1942 graduate of Conrad High School. After serving in the Navy Air Corp during WWII, he went on to graduate from Parks Aeronautical School, St. Louis University. Bill worked for the Chrysler Corporation in Newark, Delaware for 37 years.

In 1950 he married Delores Jean Bruce of East St. Louis, Illinois. They made their home in Wilmington and were blessed with five children, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Family vacations included camping trips throughout the USA. They also enjoyed their home at the beach.

Bill was faithful to his God his entire life. He was a member of both Brack Ex and Christ United Methodist Church for many years and served in numerous capacities. It was a joy for him to serve beside his close friends and church family. Later he joined Faith Baptist Church, and especially enjoyed attending his Sunday School class. He gave of his time as Troop 54 Scout Leader, the same Troop he attended as a boy. Bill read for the Association of the Blind for many years. He loved to garden. His tomatoes were the best!

Bill is survived by his wife, Jean, of 68 years and his five children, Beverly Zinkowski (Richard), Debbie Delaney, Pam Sachs, Janet Hagan (Jim) and Bill Fincher (Linda), his grandchildren, Dan Delaney (Kelly), Lindsay Sachs, Sam Sachs, Jamie Hagan, Kyle Hagan, Connor Hagan, Noah Fincher and also two great grandchildren, Quinn and Avery Delaney. In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his brother Richard A. Fincher.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, June 16 at Faith Baptist Church, 4210 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. Visitation for family and friends begins at 10AM. The family extends their gratitude to the nursing team and all other staff members at Regal Heights Healthcare Center for their dedication to Bill and the excellent care they provided. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to in Bill's name. Condolences may be sent online through mccreryandharra.com.
