William Joseph Czachorowski Jr. Obituary
William Joseph Czachorowski, Jr.

AGE: 87 • Wilmington

William Joseph Czachorowski, Jr. passed away after a brief illness at his home on Monday, November 9, 2015. He was the son of the late William Joseph and Cecilia Czachorowski.

William was married for 48 years to the love of his life, Helen, who preceded him in death. Together they raised four sons and operated Czachorowski Greenhouses which grew beautiful flowers and poinsettias for many years. William was known by many names to those who loved him: Bill, Uncle Bill, Dad, Pops, Poppa Zack, Pop Pop. The flower business gave Bill the opportunity to bring great joy and happiness to both friends and strangers alike. Bill would greet everyone with a smile, make them laugh and they couldn't wait to return to talk with him again. He was a friend to all who knew him.

Bill enlisted in the Navy in 1946 at the end of WWII. He served his Country aboard the USS San Carlos as a Fireman. After his Honorable Discharge from the Navy, Bill met his soul mate, Helen, and eventually obtained ownership of his family's flower business. Bill was a talented horticulturist with the ability to plant a seed, nourish it, and bring out its beauty. He was able to bring out the best in people as well. He was always learning and improving his skills by attending classes at Ohio State University. Bill served his community as a 75 year member of the Talleyville Fire Company.

Bill's successful flower business gave him the ability to pursue his passion "To Go Fast!" He instilled his love of cars and speed in his children by getting his sons and relatives involved in the DAP Pushmobile Derby. When they grew too old for pushmobiles, Bill switched their focus to motor cars. He loved to go drag racing with his four sons and eventually became a NHRA National Record Holder with his 1967 black Corvette.

William is survived by his four sons: William III (Mary Ann), James (Jo-Anne), Joseph (Cathy), John (Nancy), eleven grandchildren: William IV, David (Amy), Paul (Jackie), Joseph Jr (Maureen), James, Catherine (Dean), Michael (Lindsay), Laura, Kevin, Samuel, and Benjamin, two sisters: Delores Ragazzo and Agnes Morris (Harvey), and seven great grandchildren.

The Czachorowski Family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Bill's caregivers: Delaware Veterans Hospital in Elsmere, Cadia Silverside Rehabilitation, Talleyville Fire Company, Griswold Home Care, Compassionate Care Hospice, Margaret Daa, Jo-Anne (Dil).

The Viewing will be held Sunday, November 15, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike (Rt. 202 South of Silverside Road), Wilmington, DE 19803. A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Bill's life will be held on Monday, November 16th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Helena's Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809 where friends may visit for one hour prior to the service; beginning at 10 AM.

A Final Salute with Military Honors will be held at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington, Delaware.

"GO NAVY, BEAT ARMY!" That's for you, Dad!
