William Thomas Sharp, Jr.

AGE: 74 • Greenwood

William Thomas Sharp, Jr., 74, of Greenwood passed away November 7, 2016 at Bayhealth @Kent General Hospital in Dover surrounded by his family.

Tommy was born Sept. 9, 1942 in Milford, De, to the late Edna (Sapp) Sharp and William Thomas Sharp, Sr.

He graduated from Milford High School in 1960 and joined the Delaware Army National Guard shortly afterwards. Mr. Sharp was in the 261 Signal Command (Theatre Operations) and retired as a Master Sgt. after more than 25 years of service.

Tommy started working at the early age of ten for his father. At 14 years old, he began work at Milford Salvage to help support his family. At age 21, he went to work for Oscar Taylor in the masonry field. During his time, he also owned Sharp's janitorial business. In 1986, Mr. Sharp started Thomas Sharp Masonry and completed jobs throughout Milford and the surrounding areas. He retired after serving 48 years in the masonry field.

Tommy was a member of the National Rifle Association, a member of the Fort Delaware Society since 1966 and a member of Avenue Methodist Church. In addition, he served on the Polytech High School and Woodbridge High School Advisory Boards.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Trudy (Carter) Sharp; three children, son, Randall Sharp of Lincoln, step-daughter, Donna Barcus of Greenwood, son, David Sharp (Cathy) of Lincoln; 5 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one great- grandchild; brothers, Ronald Sharp (Sheila), Donald Sharp (Penny), and Billy Sharp; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 14, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford, where friends may call after 12:00 noon. Interment will be in Milford Community Cemetery, Milford.
