AGE: 86 • Newark

Charles (Charlie) D. Potts, 86, of Newark, DE, passed away on August 18th, 2014.

He was born December 17, 1927, in Louisville, KY, the son of the late Charles Lyndon and Alice Schafer Potts.

After high school, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard before graduating with his BSEE from the University of Louisville in 1952. He married Lois McGrew on April 24, 1954 in Hopkinsville, KY.

He was employed by DuPont as an electrical engineer for 37 years, retiring in 1992. While working for DuPont, he received his MSEE from the University of Louisville in 1975, became a Professional Engineer in Kentucky and Delaware, and was an active member in the IEEE.

All his life, he was greatly involved with community service, most notably as a volunteer and leader for Habitat for Humanity, the MS Society of Delaware, Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, the University of Louisville Alumni Association, New Castle Presbytery, and Louisville youth basketball, among many others.

Charlie was an avid basketball fan, particularly for his beloved Louisville Cardinals, where he played as a college freshman. He was a devoted husband, loving father as well as a kind and supportive friend to everyone that knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lois M. Potts, of Newark, DE, his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Don Sniadowski of Beckley, WV; his son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Judy Potts of Landenberg, PA, his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and David Stanford of Mechanicsville, VA, and his grandchildren, Patrick, Julie and Kate Sniadowksi and Andrew, Rachel and Lauren Stanford.

Visitation will be held at Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, 500 McKennan's Church Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808 from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23rd, with a memorial service beginning at 11. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Building Fund, Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church at the above address.
