Peter Talley Black Godshall

Peter Talley Black Godshall, 21, of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, died unexpectedly on August 25, 2014. Peter was graduated from The Tatnall School, Wilmington, Delaware, where he played violin in the string ensemble and sang in the school choir. He received the Frances D. S. Tatnall Scholar award as a junior. Peter played varsity football for Tatnall all four years in high school and was named first team all-conference as a senior. He also played varsity lacrosse for Tatnall during his junior and senior years. At graduation from Tatnall, Peter was selected by his classmates to receive the prestigious Wooden Spoon Award for exemplifying the qualities of integrity, sincerity, consideration, cooperation, courtesy, and school spirit. Peter attended The College of William & Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia and had just begun his senior year, double majoring in Finance and History. He was the Vice President of Recruitment and an executive board member for his fraternity, Beta Theta Pi. Peter was involved in numerous campus organizations, including serving as president of his club lacrosse team. As a member of First and Central Presbyterian Church, he was involved in service projects including a soup kitchen on Staten Island, NY and home construction in Clarksburg, WV. Over the past two summers, Peter interned with Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor, LLP in Wilmington, DE and PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP in McLean, Virginia and planned to join PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP upon graduation.

Peter is survived by his mother, Sheriden Talley Black; his father, Scott Godshall; his brother, Malcolm Talley Black Godshall; and his paternal grandmother, Ann Godshall. Peter was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Doris and Charles Black.

A service of thanksgiving for Peter's wonderful life will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, September 2 at The Tatnall School Laird Performing Arts Center, 1501 Barley Mill Road, Wilmington, Delaware 19807. Peter will be buried with his maternal grandparents in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring the memory of Peter by sending a memorial contribution to the Tatnall School scholarship fund.
