Charley Linberg, 89, loving husband, devoted father and loyal friend, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2017, at Stonegates surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Passaic, NJ and raised in Carney's Point NJ, Charley met the love of his life, Kate, at age 15 while a lifeguard at Riverview Beach Park. He dropped out of Penns Grove Regional High School on his 17th birthday to enter the Navy and "win the war." He finished high school and then graduated from Lowell Technical Institute in Massachusetts. Charley had a long career in textile fibers with the DuPont Company. In 2002, he was among a group of 12 employees honored by contributing to the 200th DuPont Company Anniversary Time Capsule. Charley was very involved with the St. Elizabeth's Church community where he established lifelong friendships. First Fridays at Mulrooney's became a tradition with neighbors. He was a UD football fan and enjoyed summers in Rehoboth and traveling with Kate. The happiest moments were when surrounded by his family. Charley was an avid golfer and member of the DuPont and Rehoboth Beach Country Clubs. After retiring from DuPont, Charley was instrumental in establishing the golf course ratings system for the DSGA and served as the Course Rating Director for 15 years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW.

Charley was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen Burleigh Linberg; a brother, Eugene Linberg; and his parents, Catherine G and Henry G Linberg. He is survived by 5 children, Steven E Linberg (Alice) Laytonsville MD; Kathleen "Honey" Fisher (Mike) Wilmington DE; Anne Delhommeau (Gilles) Washington DC; Charles H Linberg (Sharon) Omaha NE; and James R Linberg (Kelli) Middlefield OH. Charley was blessed with 10 grandchildren: Conor, David, Alison, Erin, Andrew, Drew, Steven, Andrea, Shannon and Kasey; 1 step-granddaughter, Lucille; and 10 great-grandchildren: Kate, Ella, Gavin, Aidan, Melina, Mia, Harper, Victoria, Alice and Isabella.

A memorial service will be held at 11am Saturday, September 9 at St. Elizabeth Church, Cedar and Clayton Streets, Wilmington, DE with visitation at 10am. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to St. Elizabeth High School Scholarship Fund, 1500 Cedar Street, Wilmington DE 19805, or a .
