Age 96, of Wilmington, DE, died Sunday, November 16, 2008.
The daughter of hardworking, Italian immigrants, she was born in 1912 in Bristol, PA, where she was raised. Kay graduated from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in 1934 in Philadelphia and began a career as a registered nurse. In 1936, she married Thomas G. Lagana, who died in 1996. For many years, they worked together in restaurant businesses in Philadelphia, New Jersey, Florida and Wilmington where they managed the former Hercules Guest House. She volunteered with the American Red Cross, numerous organizations and social clubs, and in later years, Ingleside Retirement Community, where she lived for 8 years. Kay and her husband were kind-hearted, fun-loving, sociable beings. In younger days, she enjoyed entertaining, playing cards, ice dancing, roller skating, square dancing, and ballroom dancing. After retirement, she and her husband were members of several senior centers. They delighted in being with family and helping others.
She is survived by her son, Tom and daughter-in-law, Laura; 2 grandsons, Brandon and Daniel; 2 great-grandsons, and 2 sisters.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 am, on Tuesday, November 25, at Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Road, Wilmington, DE 19810 where friends may call after 10 am. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Church of the Holy Child.
