Age 79 of Bridgeville, DE died on Tuesday, October 11, 2005, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, DE.
Captain Donovan retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1964 after 20 years of service and later retired from the State of Delaware, Bureau of Child Support. For many years his parents and then he and his wife owned and operated Donovan's Grocery Store in Bridgeville. He was a member of the OSI (Office of Special Investigations), was in the 102nd Infantry, a member of DAV (Disabled American Veterans) and the Federalsburg, MD VFW. He loved bowling, fishing and traveling and was an avid Oriole baseball fan and a Nebraska Cornhusker football fan and a member of NABI and the Collins Pond Association.
Ted was the son of the late Roy and Evelyn Donovan. His sister, Patricia Rider; and a brother, Rueben Hubert Donovan, also preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Donovan; a son, Robert E. Donovan Jr. and his fiancée, Barbara Weingard, of Milford, DE; daughter, Patricia Moore and her husband, Benjamin, of Bridgeville, DE; granddaughter, Melissa Marie Moore and her fiancé, Benjamin R. O'Neal, of Gainesville, FL; 3 sisters, Helen Jeannette Hastings of Seaford, DE, Virginia Lee Layfield and her husband, William, of Delmar, DE and Betty Naggy and her husband, George, of Long Island, NY; and 1 brother, John Alfred Donovan and his wife, Jessie, of Georgetown, DE. His aunt, Anita Richardson and her husband, William, of Federalsburg, MD; his brother-in-law, Jerry K. Rider of Laurel, DE; and his beloved nieces and nephews in Omaha, NE, also survive Ted.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, October 17th, at 11 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Stein Hwy., Seaford. Friends may call at the CRANSTON FUNERAL HOME, 300 N. Shipley St., Seaford, on Sunday evening, October 16th, from 6-8 pm. Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, DE.
