Richard H. "Dick" Gorman
1928 - 2011

A native of Wilmington, Dick lived in Happy Valley and graduated from P.S. DuPont High School. A veteran of World War II, he served in the 88th Division in Italy. Dick was a graduate of the University of Delaware where he played sports and was an officer in Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

In the late 1950's, he was a race car driver known as Dick Kelly on the NASCAR circuit on many tracks on the East Coast. In 1959, he joined the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce and was named one of the five outstanding new members in the United States. Active for many years in the Jaycees, Dick was President in Wilmington 1964-65. He was involved in many community organizations leading to his nomination for Outstanding Young Man of the Year in Wilmington.

Dick was employed by DuPont in the Powder Explosives Department as Manager, Personnel. He was President of the Bonnie Company, a real estate investment company for 30 years. He was an avid table shuffleboard player and was a highly ranked player on the East Coast and known throughout the US. Dick received the Sol Lipkin award given in honor of extraordinary contributions in shuffleboard and inducted in the Shuffleboard Hall of Fame in 2006. He also operated a company, Dick Gorman Shuffleboard Supplies, supplying customers on the entire East Coast. He had been an associate in MAG Construction since 1992.

Dick is survived by his wife Connie Gorman; brother Art, sons Michael (Carol) and Glenn (Pam), and grandchildren, Conrad, Amanda, Megan, Emily, Wyatt and Jesse.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday November 8, at the CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin where friends may visit from 9 to 11 am. Interment will be held at Leacock Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Paradise, PA.
