Margaret Dulin Obituary

Margaret S. Dulin

Noted charitable program creator and volunteer, graphic artist, mother of six, stepmother of five, and devoted friend to many, Margaret S. Dulin (Peg to her friends), passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on May 2, 2012.

Peg's shining star was her work with the Prison Ministry, New Beginnings Program at Baylor Prison. She created a sweater project for the women at Baylor Prison and that produced more than a thousand sweaters for children around the world. The goal was to instill the joy of giving for program participants and warmth for those in need. She said she did not want the women prisoners to be forgotten. She also served as a one-on-one mentor with the prisoners, encouraging them to accept the consequences of their behavior and helping to guide them toward a new life. She and her husband Joseph also worked with a favored teacher, to establish a children's library and spoke of their life experiences to students at a grammar school in Chester and then in Wilmington. They also donated books for the Boys and Girls Clubs in Wilmington.

Mrs. Dulin was a trustee, a lector, a cantor and sang in the choir at The Cathedral of St. Peter's. She also was active in the Franciscan Center and devoted time to fundraisers for both St. Peter's and the Center. She will be remembered for her beautiful American Girl Doll style clothes and accomplished counted cross-stitch, along with the many caps she knitted for the Seamen's Center. She was a member of Ki-Wives for many years.

Mrs. Dulin taught art at Ursuline Academy, obtained a teaching certificate as an art teacher, ran an art studio, and raised 6 children. When most people are slowing down and contemplating retirement she attended The Art Institute in Philadelphia for a second degree in order to become a graphic artist. She retired from Eastburn Studios in 1993. Mrs. Dulin earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Indiana at Bloomington in fine arts and was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority where she met her first husband, the deceased William C. Seal. They were happily married until he passed away in 1989. She then was blessed to have a second great love in her life and married Joseph H. Dulin, who also lost his spouse, Mary, and the two blended their families to be one. The selfless love shared by those two and their devotion to each other serves as an example for all married couples.

Peg and Joe loved travelling the world, playing bridge, dinners with friends, their church and charities, the opera, long walks, and most of all, time with family. As a testament to her spirit, upon receiving a diagnosis of lung cancer she set out to achieve her bucket list which included many interests and her shiny red car.

She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph H., and her two families that have become one. The Seals include two sons, Liam (Jean) of New Hope PA, and Brian (Debbie) of Whitehouse Station NJ; four daughters, Elizabeth (Chris Andres) of Swansea SC, Barbara (Don Schreiber) of Avondale Estates GA, Catherine (Michael Kirkland) of Woodland Park CO and Mary (Vance Branchini) of Tempe AZ. The Dulins include Patrick (Katie) of Portland OR., Carol of Wilmington DE, Michael (Fernando) of New York City, Timothy (Karen) of Seattle Washington and Thomas (Karen) of Wilmington DE, their spouses and significant others. In addition she is survived by her older sister, Sydney Wright of Paducah KY. Her brother Tom Sullivan passed away in 1990. She and Joe also have 14 grandchildren with their blended families and each one will sorely miss their loving grandmother. The family thanks Compassionate Care Hospice for their devotion, especially Daphne, Sherri, Theresa, Beth and Erica, and Michelle from the Visiting Nurses. Throughout this difficult journey, it was the nurses who made the difference (including her daughter Elizabeth) and it is appreciated. The family also thanks the many friends who helped with food, companionship and cheer.

Religious services to honor Mrs. Dulin will be at St. Peter's Cathedral at 6th and West streets in Wilmington on Saturday, May 5 at 10 am. A Celebration of Life Party will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Cathedral of St. Peters at 500 West Street, Wilmington, DE 19801 or The Boys and Girls Club of Wilmington at 669 South Union Street Wilmington, DE 19805. Mrs. Dulin had great faith and believed in paying it forward. She will be deeply missed.

I wish people could have seen the world through your eyes! Your agape love for others was just that, UNCONDITIONAL! Your ability to show grace, mercy, forgiveness and love to those who society has all but written off is an example to us all. You've proven time and time again that a person's PAST isn't nearly as important as a person's POTENTIAL!

The world is a lesser place now that you've gone home to be with the Father. However, I take comfort in knowing you've heard the Savior say, "Well done, my good and faithful servant!" I will cherish you and the memories of our friendship for the rest of my life.
