Mark T. "Grampy" Grambau

Mark, age 69 of Harrington, DE, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by the family that he loved, on Wednesday, May 9, 2012.

He was born in Detroit, Michigan to the late Herman and Esther K. Grambau. Mark retired in 1998 from the State of Delaware, after 25 years of service, as a Capital Projects Administrator. After retirement, he enjoyed 5 years of vacationing in Vermont. He also briefly worked for the Harrington Florist as a delivery driver.

Mark's passion in life besides his family, was his church family. As a member of Freedom Worship Center, he was involved with many of their ministries. He was involved with the meals ministry, and the Children's Backpack Ministry which served food to homeless children on the weekends. The church was truly his second family. He believed that God's gift to him was to encourage and lift up other people. He never met a stranger and quickly struck up conversations with everyone that he met. He truly wanted to know how that person was and left that person feeling encouraged and thanked them for talking to him. Whenever he was asked how he was, he would answer, "God put me on the green side of the grass today, so He has something good for me to do." Mark believed in and embodied the characteristics of strength, hope, faith, courage, and love. In spite of his many illnesses, he was always thinking of others, and winning others to Christ with his warm smile and outgoing personality.

In his spare time, he enjoyed reading as much as he could to satisfy his thirst for knowledge. He also enjoyed drawing, and watching sports on TV as well as the food channel and HGTV. His loving and caring nature will be sorely missed by his family, church family, and close friends.

Mark was preceded in death by brother, Hugh Grambau. Survivors include his loving wife of 16 years, Dianne Grambau of Harrington, DE; sons, Todd C. Grambau of Lancaster, PA, Scott Grambau of Wilmington, DE, Nicholas W. and wife Lana Post of Harrington, DE; daughter, Summer Leigh Post of Milton, DE; grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as "Grampy", Brianna Marie Caseley, Jackson Nicholas Post, James Michael Hughes III, Sophia Dianne Post; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.

Celebration of Life Service, Monday, May 14, 2012, 6 PM at Freedom Worship Center, 22033 Shockley Rd. Milford, DE 19963. A reception will be held at the church immediately after the service. Interment is private.
