Andrew A. Bushko

Andrew A. Bushko, age 71, of Wilmington, DE, died on August 3, 2012 at St. Francis Compassionate Care Hospice. Born in 1941 in Trenton, NJ to Andrew and Anna Bushko, he graduated from Cornell University with a B.A., New York University with an M.S. in Higher Education Student Administration, and Columbia University with an EdD in the History of Higher Education Administration.

He served as an administrator at North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND; Baldwin-Wallace University in Berea, OH; Park University in Kansas City, MO; and Rockland Community College in NY before joining Brandywine College, Wilmington, DE as Chief Academic Officer in 1977.

When Brandywine and the Delaware Law School merged with Widener University, he became the Assistant Provost for the Delaware Campus. In 1992, he moved to the main campus of Widener and served as Dean of Freshman Studies and Assistant Provost for Academic Studies, before retiring in 2005.The Andrew A. Bushko Freshman Scholarship Award was established at Widener University in his honor.



He is survived by his wife of twelve years, Elnora Rigik, and his daughters, Katy Bushko Horne and her husband Allan, and Martha Bushko. He is also survived by his granddaughter Christina Horne.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 20, 2012 at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE, at 11:30 a.m. with the service beginning at 12:30 p.m. Kindly omit flowers.
