Harold G. Richards


Harold G. Richards, 82 of Wilmington, DE passed away after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. He died at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, April 21, 2013.

Born in Nesquehoning, PA on November 7, 1930, he was the son of the late Harold G. and Luella Strohl Richards. Following graduation from Nesquehoning High School, Harold proudly served in the United States Navy. He graduated from the Washington, D.C. Police Academy and served with the police force for several years. As a young man, he also worked as a coal miner. Harold went onto spend the majority of his working years with ICI Americas, where he was employed as a building maintenance supervisor. Retiring in 1990, Harold enjoyed winters in Florida for the next twenty years.

Harold will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Nancy Zehner Richards; his two children: daughter, Diane N. Cannon (David) of Wilmington and son, Lee D. Richards (Cynthia) of Wilmington; and his beloved granddaughter, Becky Richards. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Piepmeyer; and many nieces and nephews.

Harold is preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Aiken (Russell); and his brother, William Richards (Rose).

The family is grateful for the wonderful care provided by Darlene Nuttall of Seasons Hospice and Adelaide Adusei of Griswold Home Care.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Sunday, April 28 from 1:00 - 2:00PM. Funeral services will begin at 2:00PM. Interment will be held privately with his family in Sky View Memorial Park, Tamaqua, PA on Monday, April 29.
