Loretta Davis Obituary
Affectionately known as Mommom Retsy
AGE: 81 • Wilmington
Age 81, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, at her home on Monday, November 25, 2013.
Born in Wilmington, Loretta was the daughter of the late Charles and Rosie (O'Neil) Mergenthaler. She was Co Founder of Davis Bus Company in 1958, where she continued to work until her retirement in 1998. She was a life member of Millcreek Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the Newark Senior Center.
She will be dearly missed, by her love, Larry Shomper; her son, Wendell Davis (Elaine); her daughters, Theresa Clayton (Fred) and Shirley Jefferis (Brian); her six grandchildren, Ryan, Angela, Amber, Freddy, Jessica and Danyelle; and six great grandchildren. Also survived by, her sister, Charlotte Hickman, her brothers, Lawrence and Frederick Mergenthaler, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to visitation on Saturday, November 30th from 12 noon to 1 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington. A funeral service will begin at 1 PM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Newark Senior Center, in the name of Loretta Davis, 200 White Chapel Drive, Newark DE 19713. I'm fondly remembering the years I worked for the Davis family. Retsy had a way of deciding if she was speaking to you as your employer, friend or family. I found that to be a great gift especially when I needed a nudge in the right direction. I always admired her charity work and it inspired me to do the same. My deepest sympathy for the entire Davis family at this time; thoughts are with you; this bright energetic lady will be missed.
