AGE: 85 • Hockessin and Rehoboth
Herb passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2017. He was born in Wilmington, DE on March 4, 1931 to C. Viers and Gladys Mace. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Before retirement in 1991, he was employed by Hires Turner Glass Co., Chromalloy, and Standard Distributing. He enjoyed the beach, visiting his home in Rehoboth, and his many gardens. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and Army Reserves for 30 years, served in the Korean War, and was a 50-year member of the Granite-Corinthian Masonic Lodge.
Herb was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Josephine (August 2016), his son, Eric (August 2016), and brothers, Thomas and Charles. He is survived by his son, Perry (Terry); grandchildren, Tyler Mace, Brandon Mace, and Christine Muirhead (Dwayne); great-grandchildren, Tyler Muirhead and Julia Muirhead; sister, Shirley Phillips; brother, Viers Mace; daughter-in-law, Lisa Mace; and lifelong friends, Bertha & Anthony "Bucky" Ruggiero.
Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808, where a Celebration of Herb's Life will begin at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Hockessin Friends Cemetery.
