Sheila Hobson, age 72, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 4th, 2017 at Season's Hospice. Born in Wilmington, Sheila was the daughter of the late Ethel (Shields) and Francis McInerney. She was a graduate of Corpus Christi High School and Wilmington General School of Nursing. She went on to receive her Masters Degree from Wesley College and began her nursing career at Wilmington General Hospital. Over the course of almost 50 years she worked as a nurse practitioner in private practice, at Christiana Care in Labor and Delivery as both a nurse and nurse manager, and finally as the parent education coordinator. She was actively involved with the youth group and folk music ministry at St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Sheila was also an artist, making clay sculptures and jewelry. Sheila was predeceased by her husband, John Hobson, in 2010. Additionally, she was predeceased by her mother, Ethel, father, Francis, stepfather, Anthony Starr, brother, William McInerney, and sister, Regina (McInerney) Janney.

Sheila is survived by her sons, Brian J. Hobson (Annmarie) of Wilmington, and John Brenden Hobson (Michele) of Hockessin, DE; her daughter, Erin R. Straine (Kevin) of Rumson, NJ; her mother-in-law, Jeanne Hobson; and 8 grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Maureen (McInerney) Starr, and brothers Paul and Kevin McInerney and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 13th at 11:30 AM at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE, where friends and family are invited to a visitation after 10 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way # 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
