Wilmington - "There can be miracles when you believe." By all accounts, Joseph Raymond Paul Jaworski lived his life as a True Believer - in music, in art, in angels, in family and friends and above all, he believed in the miracle of the love he shared with his soul mate and husband of 27 years, Paul Gordon Joseph Van Liew.

Joseph ended his time on earth surrounded by those who loved him most, in the home he so cherished, following a 15-month battle with cancer. He left us on August 6, 2018; he was 51 years old.

A rebellious child, he looked for outlets for his energy in music and theatre; he was a tremendously gifted singer and performer and quite an artist, too. But in a complete departure from the arts, Joseph found great discipline as a seaman in the U.S. Navy serving with pride on the USS Nimitz and traveling the world.

Upon return from the naval base outside Seattle, Joseph went to work side-by-side with his beloved father, Raymond, at the family business, Wilmington Builders. His mother, Marge, stood as CEO of the business and the family. Both preceded Joseph in death.

As a creative entrepreneur, Joseph along with Paul and a third partner, opened Pagave' Salon and Spa. The idea and design for Pagave' were all his but anyone entering the salon knows its success comes from the warmth and dedication of the amazing professionals who work there; Joseph's adopted family.

In addition to his husband, Paul, Joseph leaves behind his sister Tina Marcozzi (Guy), nieces Alison and Peyton and nephew Nick; in-laws Ken and Nancy Van Liew; brother-in-law Kenneth Van Liew (Terry) and nieces Alyse and Courtney, and nephew, Michael. It cannot go unsaid that Joseph held a small group of friends as his second true family . . . they know who they are.

Throughout his life, his infectious laugh, tender compassion and rich spirit were Joseph's hallmarks. These gifts were a big part of how he made people feel; he passionately sought out the less fortunate and consistently inspired those who'd been dealt bad cards. In other words, he was always "making good" with the vast majority of lives he touched. Although our hearts are broken, we will never stop Believing because Joseph was himself, a miracle.

A celebration of Joseph's life will be held Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the Delaware Art Museum, 2301 Kentmere Parkway, Wilmington, DE 19806.
