Francis A. Biunno Obituary
Honorable Francis A. Biunno, 87 Of Media. Honorable Francis A. Biunno, 87, on November 30, 2012. Born of Italian immigrants and raised in S.W. Philadelphia, Fran graduated from West Catholic High School in 1943 and went on to obtain both undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. While in college, Fran began his more than 20-year career in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserves, where he achieved the rank of Commander and received a commendation in 1966 from the Italian navy for duties as a translator. During his legal career, he worked as a lawyer in private practice, often doing pro-bono work for neighbors. Later he served as a Philadelphia assistant district attorney, before being elected in 1974 to the role of Common Pleas Court judge in Philadelphia. Highly regarded for his commitment to justice and fair interpretation of the law, he served two terms, retiring from the bench in 1994. He married neighborhood sweetheart, the former Jule Kleinz in 1965 and the couple raised two children, Regina and Francis, in S.W. Philadelphia. Fran will always be remembered as a devoted family man with steadfast morals and values who was known for his engaging stories, encyclopedic knowledge, poorly-told jokes, and sometimes cantankerous spirit. An often unlucky fisherman and backyard gardener who prided himself on his tomatoes and peppers, he was an avid reader and in later years a doting grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors: Beloved husband of Jule C. Biunno (nee Kleinz); devoted father of Regina and Francis (Stephanie); loving pop-pop of Sara, Franco and Mary-Kate. Visitation: Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing and funeral Thursday 9:30 to 10:45 AM at St. John Chrysostom Church, 615 S. Providence Rd., Wallingford. Funeral Mass 11 AM Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. Arr: Danjolell-Stigale Memorial Home of Aston Online Condolences: www.danjolell.com
