DELAWARE — Anna M. Haas, 56, of Delaware, Ohio, passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, April 4, 2021 after a hard-fought battle with endometrial cancer.
Born October 15,1964 in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of the late Joseph L. & Mattie Mae (Durfey) Haas. Anna graduated from Olentangy High School in 1983. She received her Associate's Degree in Culinary Arts from Columbus State Community College. Throughout her younger years, Anna was an active 4-H member for 10 years. Anna loved working in food service and feeding people — if she was cooking, you weren't going away from the table hungry. She worked at Recreation Unlimited and then Camp Lazarus, Boy Scouts of America, as a camp cook, known for always having chocolate chip cookies. She was also a cook for the Ohio State School for the Blind in Columbus. Eventually, her career led her to the Delaware County Sheriff's Office as their lead cook, still well-known among staff and inmates for her cookies. Anna transferred from the kitchen to become a Corrections Officer, a position she worked until a week before her passing. Anna dutifully served with the Delaware County Sheriff's Office for over 10 years. Anna was also a member of the West Berlin Presbyterian Church community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Howard and Joseph Haas.
Left to treasure her memory are her K-9 companion, her main support system, and her "baby," Rosie, her loyal cocker spaniel; sister Brenda (Charlie) Smith; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends, and her Delaware County Sheriff's Office family.
Anna left her footprints on so many lives from 4-H, to school groups at camp, scouts and those she worked with at the DCSO. She enjoyed attending the Delaware County Fair each and every year. She enjoyed listening to Garth Brooks, watching her favorite TV shows, Days of Our Lives and Blue Bloods, and NASCAR. Those who knew her, will remember her as the positive, enthusiastic, loyal, independent, compassionate, strong woman that she was.
