Obituary

DELAWARE — Mary Lue Whiteside, age 87 of Delaware, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2019 at Delaware's Willow Brook Christian Village.

Born in Willoughby, Ohio on March 6, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Edgar and June (Whetzel) Wilcox. After graduating from Magnetic Springs High School, she married Robert Whiteside in 1950. She considered raising her family her greatest achievement.

Mary Lue was blessed with patience, a trait that served her well throughout her 65 years of marriage and raising her sons. She was most proud of her men and their successes in life.

Mary Lue was devoted to her family. She is survived by sons: Kirt (Karen) of Delaware, Jeff (Tracy) of Powell, and Terry (Cindy) of Delaware; 8 grandchildren: Tenille (Matt) Schoonover, Cortney (Chad) Mays, Sheleah, Cara, David (Lindsey), Robby Whiteside, Lauren and Will Wright; 7 great-grandchildren; Mia, Liam, Alia, Leia Schoonover, Kajsa and Kai Mays, Jackson Whiteside; sisters-in-laws: Margaret Anderson, Pat (Jim) Lathrop, Pat Whiteside, Judy Ferguson and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert in 2015, son Gary in 1962; sisters: Bette Zimmerman, Jeane Brokaw; brother: Ray Ferguson; and other beloved relatives.

Her love of family and friends was only surpassed by her love of God. As a prayer warrior, Mary Lue was a dedicated member of New Beginnings United Methodist Church where she was a longtime Sunday school teacher, newsletter editor, serving on the church's card and prayer chain ministries. Using Mary Lue's words "I am an ordinary woman with an extraordinary God!"

She was a supporter of the Delaware community, serving as a volunteer at Grady Hospital and poll worker for over 25 years. One of many contracting polio in 1950, she made many connections because of it.

Friends may call 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Dr. at W. William St., Delaware, Ohio 43015 where services will be held 11 a.m. Monday with Rev. David Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
