Perneltha "Perny" Benson-Allen

LAUREL — Perneltha "Perny" Benson-Allen, 85, of Laurel, Del., passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Perny was born in New Jersey, a daughter of the late Harry W. Howard and Reba Boyce Howard.

She was a talented beautician, working for Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home for almost 40 years and Dot Layton's beauty shop. She also had worked as an assistant to Dr. Prettyman in Laurel and Hess Apparel Store. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Laurel and a past member of the American Legion Auxillary. Cherished family memories include her love of spending time with her family. A very special lady, she always had a smile and a hug ready for everyone. Perny also enjoyed playing cards with her friends and going shopping with family and friends.

Mrs. Allen is survived by her husband of six years, James Allen. She also leaves a legacy of children, J. Warren Benson and wife, Carol, of Laurel, Brenda Brunner and husband, Danny, of Laurel, Clark W. Benson and wife, Deby, of Delmar, Sherri L. Haney and husband, Richard, of Laurel, Shelly B. Murphy and companion, Kevin Whaley, of Laurel, Cathy Parker and husband, Richard, of Laurel and Dean Allen and wife, Patricia, of Fort Myers, Fla.; a brother, Harry Howard Jr. of Tennessee; her grandchildren, Marcy Walls and husband, Chris, Michelle Mattingly, Tyler Benson and Amber, Seth Benson, Sierra Murphy; great-grandchildren, Colby Pfleger, Marissa Walls, Chase Ashley, Briley Mattingly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a husband, John Benson, in 1999.

A funeral service will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 2 p.m., where a viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. A viewing will also be held Tuesday evening at the Church from 6-8. The Rev. Joseph G. Burris will officiate.
