Bertie Jeannette Kelly

Powellville - Bertie Jeannette Kelly, 86, of Powellville, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at home surrounded by her family. Born in Powellville, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Burton Chandler and Jennie Sayers Johnson Chandler.

She was a graduate of Wicomico High School and in her earlier years, she worked as a para legal secretary at various law firms. Bertie was married to a career military husband, traveling all over the country while raising their family. During her travels, she was a member of several churches, but since moving to Powellville, she became a member of the Powellville United Methodist Church where she was involved in the United Methodist Women and various other committees. Bertie always had a smile for everyone she met and treated everyone who entered her home as family.

Bertie is survived by five children, J. Bruce Kelly & wife, Gloria of Powellville, Susan Dennis & husband, Robert of Willards, Thomas Kelly of Powellville, David Kelly of Powellville, and Brenda Kelly-Bowden and husband, Scott of Powellville; nine grandchildren, Melissa Meadows, Marcia Bowden, Shanna Hastings, Dylan Kelly, C W Wells, Betsy Kelly, Christopher Bowden, Jaelyn Bowden, and Haillie Bowden; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother, Stanley "Fred" Chandler of Powellville and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by loving husband, Joseph Henry Kelly in 2015, five siblings, Richard Johnson, Mabel Johnson, Elton Johnson, Lloyd Chandler, and Gertrude Donaway; and a special niece, Muriel Pomeroy.

The family would like to thank Grace White, Gloria Kelly, and the caregivers of Eastern Shore Brokers and Coastal Hospice for the care of Bertie over the last few months.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 3 pm at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury with Rev. Terri Fort officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Powellville Cemetery.
