Clarence William Bennett, Jr.

Salisbury-Clarence William Bennett, Jr., 83, of here and formerly of New York, died Saturday, November 16, 2013, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Born November 22, 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Clarence W. Bennett, Sr. and Juanita Tucker Bennett.

While he was attending Virginia State University, he joined the ROTC Program. Fulfilling his two year commitment to the United States Army, he was assigned many duties as a First Lieutenant in different countries, including the Korean Conflict. After his tour of duty ended, he returned to Virginia State to complete a degree in science.

After teaching for a brief period, he was encouraged to obtain a Master's Degree at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. He also received a Master's Degree in Administration from New York City College. As an employee of the New York Board of Education, he was Dean of Students for School #169 in New York City, Dean of Special Education for School #192 in Queens, NY, and Assistant Principal in New York City from which he retired.

After retirement, Clarence relocated to Salisbury. He then became a member of First Baptist Church.

Memories of him will be cherished by his loving wife, Shirley Lindsey-Bennett; a son, Craig Bennett; a loving adopted son, Michael Nelson; a stepdaughter, Claudette Lindsey; grandchildren; an aunt, other relatives, and many friends.

Mr. Bennett will lie in repose on Saturday from 10 to 11 AM at First Baptist Church, 528 Booth Street and Delaware Avenue, Salisbury. The funeral service will begin at 11 AM. Rev. Dr. Lewis N. Watson will be the Officiating Pastor. Disposition will be private. A ministry of comfort and dignity is being provided by Lewis N. Watson Funeral Home, P.A. in Salisbury.
