Willards-Clifton H. Brittingham, Sr., age 78, of Willards died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Coastal Hospice At The Lake in Salisbury. Prior to that, Cliff had been a resident of Genesis Nursing Home for three years where he was affectionately known as "Sweet Daddy". He was born in Powellville and was the son of the late John and Hazel (Palmer) Brittingham.

He owned TNC Construction Co. for many years and was a member of Powellville United Methodist Church and a former member of the Willards Lions Club. An avid sports fan, he loved the New York Yankees and enjoyed horse racing. He was a pitcher for the Wicomico County Fast Pitch League for several years winning many trophies and awards.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Jean Brittingham of Willards; two daughters, Teresa Gordy of Fruitland and Nellie Brittingham of Willards; a son, C.H. Brittingham Jr. of Point Of Rocks, MD; three grandsons, Tim Gordy of Willards, Brandon Brittingham of Salisbury and Jacob Brittingham of Point of Rocks; two brothers, Tommy Brittingham and his wife Clara Mae of Salisbury and Jack Brittingham of Pittsville; three sisters, Doris Lacurts of Fruitland, Barbara Parker of Pittsville and Brenda Long of Willards; his mother-in-law, Esther Lacurts of Willards; a sister-in-law, Debbie Brittingham of Pittsville and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Billy Brittingham, James "Nut" Brittingham and Chester Brittingham and his pit bull "Blue".

Cliff had suffered from ill health for many years. No matter how sick he was he kept fighting and smiling. His sense of humor never died.

A funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday, March 8 at Hastings Funeral Home in Selbyville. Friends may call on Friday evening from 6 pm to 8 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Dennis Cemetery in Willards.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wicomico County Humane Society Pit Bull Rescue, 5130 Citation Drive, Salisbury, MD 21804 or to Powellville United Methodist Church, c/o Rick Smith, 35639 Mt. Herman Road, Pittsville, MD 21850.
