David Wayne Cox

Mardela Springs - David Wayne Cox, 52, of Mardela Springs, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 15, 2021 at Tidal Health surrounded by his loving family. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of Buddy Cox (Brenda) of Salisbury and Betty Thomas of Delmar.

Wayne was a 1986 graduate of Wicomico Senior High School. He worked in the family-owned business known as Buddy's Shell before starting his own business, Cox Service Center. Wayne was most proud of his son, Taylor, and enjoyed being involved in his racing and baseball life. Wayne would be found outside the left field fence or at the racetrack yelling, "D-E-L-M-A-R!" Wayne enjoyed racing, baseball, camping, cooking for everyone, and most importantly being with his family and friends. He especially loved kids and would treat them as his own, often saying, "it's all about the kids!" Wayne was best known as a fun-loving, people person who would always be the life of the party and had a desire to help anyone in a moment's notice.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Dawn Cox; a son, Taylor Cox of Mardela Springs; two brothers, Randy Cox (Laura) of Laurel and Eugene Thomas, Jr. (Victoria) of Monroeville, NJ; two sisters, Julia and Christie, both of Salisbury; and several nieces, nephews, cousins & extended family.

Wayne was preceded in death by his stepfather, Eugene Thomas, Sr.

Wayne was the best, he was my mechanic for many years, even better I considered him a friend. He was the type to give you the shirt off of his back and his last dollar. He always had a smile on his face. This world was a better place with him in it. He will be missed.
