Earl Harlen Dize, Jr.

Salisbury - Earl Harlen Dize Jr. age 79, died on May 4, 2018 at Coastal Hospice At The Lake in Salisbury. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Patsy Nock Dize of Salisbury. He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn Mason. Earl has three daughters and one son, Michelle Kline, Bonnie Jester, Tammy O'Grady, and Mike Dize from a previous marriage. In addition, Earl has five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Earl's extended family consists of stepson, Wally Mariner and wife, Charlene Mariner, his granddaughters, Amanda Mariner and Kayla DeVaughn and her husband, Joshua DeVaughn, a step-daughter Vicky Bradford and her husband, Billy Bradford.

He is preceded in death by his brother, George Harlen Dize who died in the Vietnam War in 1968.

Earl was born on September 6, 1938 in Crisfield Maryland, to parents Earl Harlen Dize, Sr. and Alice W. Dize. In 1956, at age 17, he joined the United States Army. He served in the army for 8 years and retired in 1956 as Sergeant. In 1964, he became a Deputy Sheriff for Wicomico County. Earl served under five sheriffs during his time as a Deputy Sheriff. He retired in 1990 with the rank of Lieutenant. Earl became a correctional officer for Wicomico County and retired from there in 2004. He also worked at Hebron landfill from 2007 until 2017.

Earl served Wicomico County for over 53 years. He received Officer of the Month for November in 1969, Officer of the Year for 1986, and gained his Certificate from the Maryland Corrections Department in 1992. Earl also received the Governor's Citation of Honor in 1990 from Gov. William Donald Schaefer.

When Earl was not serving the citizens of Wicomico County, he enjoyed fishing and boating. His family and friends will miss him greatly. He will be remembered as humble, caring, and charismatic. He was loved and respected by so many. Earl touched more lives than he knows. He will be truly missed.

The family would like to thank Peninsula Reginal Oncology Center, Coastal Hospice and Palliative Care, neighbors, and friends for their love and support.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday evening, May 8, 2018 at 7:00pm at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury with a visitation beginning at 5:00pm. Officiating will be Rev. Danny Travers and Rev. Jamie DeVaughn. Inurnment will be private at Lewis Cemetery in Willards.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.
