George Webb Jr. Obituary
George Webb, Jr.

Accomac -

George Edward Webb, Jr., 89, a resident of Accomac, Virginia passed away at his home on June 7, 2018. Born August 21, 1928, in Norfolk, Virginia he was the son of the late George Edward Webb and Beulah Lucy Bunch Webb. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia Anne Lee Buzzy Webb.

Eddie was a graduate of Kempsville High School. Following graduation, he began a storied career with the Department of Virginia State Police. His first assignment was Accomack County and he and Anne made their home in Temperanceville. When he was 27, he was drafted into the Army and served in Germany during the Korean War. When his time in the service was complete, his position with the State Police on the Eastern Shore had been filled. He and Anne moved with their daughter to Smithfield, Virginia where they lived for the next 45 years. They moved back to the Shore in 2001.

Early in his career, he was part of the original Virginia State Police "Dog Team". It was a group of five men across Virginia who took on the added responsibility of training and working with the first K-9 unit of the State Police. His work with the dog, Ranger, brought him to the Eastern Shore often tracking people through the woods over all kinds of terrain and circumstances. He was a State Trooper for 37 years.

Eddie was active in the community of Smithfield. He was former chair of the Isle of Wight County Recreation Authority, a 50 year member of the Smithfield Masonic Lodge, a member of the Isle of Wight Museum Commission and the Smithfield Hunt Club. He was an avid gardener. His vegetable garden in Smithfield was a showplace and often people would ride out into the country to see it. Once he moved to Accomac, he still had a small garden and could be seen by passersby almost every day planting, weeding and tending to his vegetables, flowers and flower beds.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Lisa Webb Lewis and her husband W. Revell Lewis III, of Onancock, Virginia; two sons, George Edward Webb III and his wife Karen, of Farnham, Virginia, and William Robert Webb and his wife Kathy, of Destin, Florida. He is survived by four grandchildren Melissa Webb Rose, Katie Webb Bullis, William Robert Webb, Jr., Brittni Webb Aycock and five step grandchildren Mary Lewis Gordon, William Revell Lewis IV, Alisha Radcliffe, Matthew Radcliffe and Taylor Johannes. Additionally, he had six great-grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Peggy Webb Liebold. He was predeceased by a sister, Betty Webb Jackson.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 am, on Tuesday, June 12th at Grace United Methodist Church in Parksley, Virginia. The Reverend C. Alan Layman will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, P. P.O. Box 156, Parksley, VA 23421 or Riverside Shore Memorial Cancer Center, 20480 Market Street, P.O. Box 430, Onancock, VA 23417.
