Delmar - John Lee Short, age 73, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2018 at PRMC, surrounded by his family. He was born April 27, 1945 in Washington, DC to the late George and Zenia (Sifers) Short. John grew up in Vienna, MD, graduated from North Dorchester High School, and moved to Delmar, DE in 1994. He started his career at DP&L in Vienna until moving to the Indian River plant, from where he retired in 1996.

John enjoyed fishing, hunting, crabbing, and playing cards with family and friends. He met the love of his life, Bonnie, in 1962, who he married three years later. John and Bonnie had three daughters. He was a member of the VFW, where he proudly participated in fundraisers for veterans.

John is survived by his wife of 53 years Bonnie (Fletcher) Short; daughters Donna (Doug) Bowers, Tracey, and JoAnn (Joey) Melton; siblings Jeanette (T.Lee) Austin, Judy (Howard) Griffith, Jack Short and Jimmy Short; and sister-in-law Vicki Gray. He had 3 grandchildren, Chuckie (Stephanie) Creighton, Josh Creighton and Jessica (Jeremy) Blann, and three step-grandchildren, Doug Bowers, Josh (Kristen) Bowers and Ashley Bowers; several nieces and nephews, great grandchildren, and very close friends.

Services will be Monday, October 8 at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, DE. Friends can call on the family from 10-11; services will immediately follow at 11 am. Burial will be at St. Stephen's Cemetery. A Celebration of John's Life will be held at the Delmar VFW after the burial.
