Samuel Burton Mitchell

Salisbury - Samuel "Burton" Mitchell passed away on June 23, 2018. Burton was born in Dagsboro, DE and was a long-time resident of Salisbury, MD.

He attended John M. Clayton School in Dagsboro, DE from grades 1 - 12. After high school, he entered the Army where he served for two years at Ft. Carson Army Base in Colorado. Burton married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, the late Lavessa Hudson Mitchell. They enjoyed 46 years of marriage before she passed away on March 10, 2001.

Burton worked at DuPont in Seaford, DE for forty years before retiring. He then worked for Nyquist in Salisbury, MD for twenty years. He was also a long-standing member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Salisbury where he served as head usher for many years.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Lavessa Hudson Mitchell, his mother, Emily Cowan Mitchell; his father Delbert B. Mitchell, a sister, Emily Draper and two brothers, Kermit Mitchell and Jerry Lee Mitchell. He is survived by his children, Kimberly "Kim" Mitchell Blake of Dagsboro, DE, Kevin Burton Mitchell of Newark, NJ, Keith Ralph Mitchell of Las Vegas, NV and Kelly Mitchell Brittingham of Salisbury, MD; grandchildren, Holly Weaver Jones (Jon), Kayla Blake Syphard (Rob), Paige Mitchell, Connor O'Malley and Kennedy O'Malley, great-grandchildren, Haley Jones and Justin Jones and a brother Daniel "Danny" Mitchell (Kay), a brother-in-law, Bruce Hudson and sister-in-law Sandra Hudson Bell (Jim) as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 11:30 to 1:30 PM on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher Street, Frankford, DE 19945 where a funeral service will begin at 1:30 PM. Interment will follow at Carey's Cemetery in Frankford, DE.
