Tommy A. Bryant
BERLIN — Tommy A. Bryant, 71, of Berlin died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at PRMC in Salisbury. Born in Berlin, she was the daughter of the late Clayton and Rachel Purnell.
She graduated in 1963 from the former Maryland State College, now the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, the Alpha Omicron Chapter at the college.
She was a member of Tyree AME Church, where she often played the organ. She also used her musical gift as a pianist for area churches and soloists.
Her former employment included social studies/history teacher for two years at the former Worcester High School; caseworker for Social Security Administration in Baltimore and in the mailroom department at The Daily Times in Salisbury.
Her survivors include one daughter and granddaughter, Antoine and Alisha Bryant, both of Snow Hill; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Purnell; two aunts, Mary Jane Purnell and Minnie Doughty, all of Berlin; a devoted cousin and caretaker, Andrea Purnell of Salisbury; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A son, Carlos Bryant, and a brother, Faison Purnell, preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held at noon Friday, Jan. 4, at Tyree AME Church in Berlin, where friends may call two hours prior to service.
Services are entrusted to Jolley Memorial Chapel in Salisbury.
