Rosemarie Hartshorn Obituary
Rosemarie Risk Hartshorn

Salisbury-Rosemarie Risk Hartshorn departed this life in the early morning hours of Valentine's Day, Friday, Feb. 14, 2014. Born in Seattle, Wash., on Nov. 27, 1927, Rose grew up with her sister Louise in San Francisco. At the age of 16, she met a handsome sailor, Edward Risk, who was the love of her life. After World War II the two married and moved to Peekskill, N.Y., where they raised three children. Rose had many fond recollections of family vacations taken in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. After the sudden passing of her husband, Rose moved to Greenwood, Miss., and enjoyed living close to her sister and brother-in-law. While living in Mississippi, she traveled to Honduras on a mission trip and considered it an honor to have had that experience.

In 1987 Rose moved to Salisbury, where she continued to serve others through her volunteer work at Atria and the Salisbury Police Assurance Program. She touched the lives of area shut-ins during her years with the program and received an award from the police department honoring her dedication. "Miss Rose" was beloved by many children in the Salisbury community who can recount zipping around town with her in her little Datsun 280Z. She was a dog lover and spent many afternoons walking her little dogs at the Salisbury Park. In her 70s Rose married William P. Hartshorn (2007) and became an active senior at MAC Inc., where she took great pleasure in tending to other seniors less able than herself. She was an energetic octogenarian who always said that "age is just a number," and until recent years she was always on the go.

Rose is survived by her children, Edward William Risk Jr. (Mary) of Spring Hill, Fla., Nancy Alyce Murphy (Bob) of Salisbury and John Risk (Marie) of Watertown, Conn.; her granddaughters, Beth Andresen (Jon), Kim Scully, Jennifer Barry (Ryan), Erin Ciancitto (Dan) and Brooke Furimsky (Ben) and grandson, Jonathan Risk, will treasure their memories of "Noni." She was loved as "the Great Noni" by her great-grandchildren, Alec and Mia Ciancitto, and was fortunate to meet her newborn great-grandson, Tiki Furimsky, before her passing and would have enjoyed spending time with great-grandchildren, Kaylin and Andrew Blais and Isabella Andresen.

A service honoring Rosemarie's life and her commitment to God will be held at the Cross Pointe Church of the Nazarene in Salisbury on Saturday, April 12, at 11 a.m. All who knew Rose are welcome to attend and share in this memorial.

Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home P.A., 501 Snow Hill Rd., Salisbury, MD 21804. Please visit www.hollowayfh.com to express condolences to the family.
