George E. Blankenship, Sr.

Salisbury-George E. Blankenship, Sr. of Salisbury, MD passed away on August 25, 2014. He was born on August 28, 1927 in Monterey, TN, the son of P.B. Blankenship and Mary Jarvis Blankenship.

He served in the US Navy during World War II, on the USS Ludlow. He was best known locally as a small business owner who exemplified fairness and integrity. Upon moving to the Eastern Shore he and his family became members of Allen Memorial Baptist Church. He and his wife, Barbara assisted with two church plants, South Salisbury Baptist (now Oak Ridge Baptist Church) and the First Baptist Church of Fruitland. He served as a Deacon in each church. Prior to his illness, he and his wife attended the First Baptist Church of Delmar. In addition to his family, George had a passion for traveling and studying genealogy.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara J. Blankenship; his son, George E. Blankenship, Jr. and his wife Anna Marie Heath Blankenship; his daughter, Donna Blankenship Leffew and her husband Mike D. Leffew; 4 grandchildren, James Blankenship (Florence), Steven Blankenship (Michelle), Erin Leffew, and Samantha Leffew Kenney (Stephen) and 5 great-grandchildren, all of Salisbury. He is preceded in death by his brother James E. Blankenship of Chattanooga, TN.

A graveside service will be held Thursday at 2 PM at Wicomico Memorial Park. Pastor Brian Albert of Bethesda UMC will officiate.
